Its persistence wore me down like a gentle river carving through rocks. I did not know when I came to love it so much that I missed it even when it was right there before my eyes, glistening in the rain. The little ambush of ferns at the foot of the gate had entered into more than just my home, it had become a soothing friend, always there to treat my senses to a magnificent green that it was too modest to show off!
This pink hued cotton satin blouse with hand embroidery is a delicate beauty!
Cotton fabric dates back to some of the most ancient civilisations and it has a strong presence in the modern wardrobe as well. The softness and lightness of cotton combined with its strength and versatility makes it one of the most popular choices, especially for the Indian climate.
At Suta we have combined cotton and satin to create a very special kind of fabric that is utterly soft as well as luxurious. Satin is a fabric that is known for its amazing feel. It is woven using a special method where four or more weft yarns are woven over a single warp yarn and this gives the characteristic sheen to satin fabric. The combination of these fibres results in a fabric that has the strengths of both types of fibres.

I loved nothing more than my toy racing car as a kid. Then I grew up and bought a real car of my own. What do I feel? Ah well, what do these grown-up things know about that boundless excitement, this privilege that only the completely free mind of a child could afford? Grown-up money could never buy that :)
This teal beauty in a blend of mul and viscose slub is a dream come true!
Viscose is a natural fabric that is made using the viscose fibre. This fibre is extracted using a special process that involves dissolving wood pulp and regenerating it in the form of fibres. Viscose is a manufactured fibre that is made using natural materials and the final product is very similar to naturally occurring fibres such as cotton in terms of look and feel.
For Suta products, viscose fibre as weft is woven with cotton fibre as warp to create a fabric that is a magical blend of the comfort of cotton and the subtle shine of viscose. This fabric feels beautifully soft to the skin.

Thirty was a big number. She was looking forward to and dreading the day in equal measure. She’d never imagined she’d have to face it but now that it was staring her in the face, she knew she couldn’t escape it. Her sisters had insisted on a big party to celebrate this milestone but her heart wanted different. She followed it to the outskirts of the city, where the concrete turned to cobblestone and then packed earth, and the grass grew wild and free. Stopping by the stream, she lay down on the grass and let her body soak in the warmth of the winter sun. She would exit her 20s by herself, her lips stained with the sweet juice of berries and nostalgia. This was the slice of heaven that was all her own, a precious memory that she would carry with her, long after the day had ended.
Reclaim your own slice of heaven in this gorgeous maroon ruffled saree, made of mul cotton and embellished with hand-embroidered chumkis (sequins).
Our ‘made in heaven’ mul cotton is also known as mul mul in West Bengal. The fabric is buttery soft and has a delicate beauty. Its weave is very fine and this lends a very fluid texture to the fabric, which makes draping it a breeze. It truly is like a hug that wraps you in its love. The addition of ruffles adds a playful touch to the saree, while also adding a statement detail. The rich colour palette is accentuated by the hand-embroidered chumkis (sequins), which makes this saree the perfect addition to your festive wardrobe.

As the teacher passed by the desk in front of me, I had measured the rhythm of her steps. The mathematician in me calculated how long it will take for her to pass my desk and then turn back to face us. My hands coordinated with the math, drew the exact geometric angle to extend my hand and she calculated the gravity and speed of air to drop the note in my hand.Give me your sambhar rice, do you want my pooris, it read! What expertise it took to be a child and oh how much fun!

It a story as old as time – all the children in the village made a beeline for the grove on hot summer afternoons. With their bare hands, they’d scramble up the mango trees and pluck the fruit, biting off the stem and sucking its sweet juice. The famer would chase them down, a stick in his hand, his admonishments a stark contrast to their gleeful cries. That morning, the ragtag bunch of mango-pickers found an idyllic spot near a stream to feast on their loot and engage in bouts of mock-wrestling.
He bid his friends goodbye and ran to his grandmothers’, who treated him to his favourite aloo parathas topped with dollops of butter and a tangy smear of mango achar. He could almost savour the taste on his lips, when his mother shook him awake. He was due to attend his final exams at school. Although tense, his mouth tuned into a small smile as he knew he would soon be in his happy place for the upcoming summer holidays.
Let this cute cotton cushion cover adorned with exquisite hand embroidery take you to your happy place.

My love letter wasn't from a boy. It was from this person who taught me what it meant to be two bodies and one soul. My best friend, she wrote her heart out to me. Her love, her innocence, her dreams, she poured them all into the ink, pausing only to curve that ‘a’ and loop that ‘l’ properly. “It is you I'm writing to, almost as if writing to myself, so it deserves my best handwriting after all” she said!
This gorgeous black handloom cotton saree is simply a stunner!
The handloom cotton is a type of fabric that is woven using hand operated looms. Two sets of interlacing yarns, the warp (length) and weft (width), are woven on a mechanised loom operated by weavers. These looms do not use electricity. Human handling lends the fabrics a unique feel and renders the fabrics more value. The resultant fabric is softer, more durable and much more comfortable than machine-made fabrics. Handloom cotton is more breathable and thus feels lighter in summers and provides more insulation in winters. The dyeing process also becomes easier for handloom cotton as the colour penetration is substantially more. Hues are absorbed better thus look resplendent on handloom cotton.
The art of hand weaving is labour intensive and takes a longer time. But, the beauty it adds to the fabric is priceless. Choosing handloom cotton supports the rich weaving heritage of India and lets the weavers carry on the precious art-form to the future generations as well.

Somewhere between what we were and what we will be lies the life that we live. The now. It seems so delicate that it is almost hard to ever grasp it. I once had this half-filled notebook that reminds me of just this kind of fragility. The filled pages are alive with reality while the rest of them are bustling with possibility. That one line in between these two dances to the tunes of silence while staying absolutely still to take it all in!

Art does not have to be something that we admire from a distance. Especially in our culturally rich country, art has a place in most of the things that surround us and the clothes that we wear are the perfect platforms to showcase our very own identity through art. Indian art forms certainly have enough art forms that you can choose from to tell the world who you are. Among the best of such art forms is the art of embroidery.
The art primarily involves making patterns on fabric by sewing using a needle and various types of threads or beads. Although embroidery has been a part of various cultures across the world, Indian embroidery has always been regarded to be very intricate and exquisite. Our country’s history has shaped the development of embroidery. The art of embroidery is so evolved in our country that almost every state has its own special kind of embroidery today. Although the British rule did cause a setback to handicrafts in India, the resurrection of embroidery after Independence has been remarkable. Intricate embroidery from India is valued world over.
Embroidery work on fabric is very popular and involves a process that consists of various stages. First, various types of popular Indian motifs and artistic designs are first created on paper. These designs are then traced onto the saree or fabric and then the embroidery is done by expert artisans. The art of embroidery is passed down from generation to generation and the nuances of hand embroidery can hardly be matched by machines. Creating art on the canvas of fabrics is definitely something that has an innate beauty that adds a lot of value to apparel.

All the colours inside her wild, disorganised mind where pushing each other to gain prominence. Let me get to you one-by-one, she pleaded. But, never did they listen. As she smiled sheepishly at her own minds disobedience, she finally let go of trying to control it. She let go of all her apprehensions. She let go of all her fears. And then, the colours took over. They burst forth instantly and came together to become her very own brilliantly black garden!!

When it comes to fabrics, there is a history of many types of fabrics that have been used since the dawn of the first civilizations. Some of these fabrics have weathered the changes in time and are still among the most used fabrics even today. While such fabrics and weaves have an undeniable old-world charm, at the other end of the spectrum there are some wonderful fabrics that are products of new-age innovation. These fabrics are developed with the challenges of the present world in mind while also retaining the allure of conventional fabrics. One of the most important ones in this list is the fabric made out of Eucalyptus fiber. Eucalyptus wood is used as a raw material to derive the yarn for this and it is considered to be a revolutionary fabric for ecological and economical reasons. It uses a fraction of resources that other conventional fabrics use and the solvents used are also almost 100% recovered. This is called modal(Liva) fibre and can be derived from other kinds of wood as well in sustainable ways.

This is a versatile bunting that utilises leftover cotton slub fabric and transforms into a beautiful decor accent.
Cotton slub is a type of cotton fabric that has a rough, uneven texture. The cotton is twisted prior to weaving, resulting in a fabric that is light and floaty. The beauty of this fabric is that because of its inherent knots and uneven texture, products made from its are invariably one-of-a-kind. This collection of buntings utilises fabric scraps, enabling Suta to reduce our textile waste and contribute towards a greener planet.

The main ingredient in any risotto, the chef explained, was patience. Without patience, you’d either burn the rice or overcook it to a sodden mess. It was a painstaking recipe that called for complete commitment. As a scientist, he knew that the same was also true of most of nature’s miracles. Diamonds weren’t forged overnight and neither did sand turn to stone in a matter of hours. And perhaps, that was something he ought to remember more often. The journey to accolades, to this fancy dinner and awards ceremony he was now attending, had taken him many years in the making. He’d been disheartened, and had nearly given up. But like the risotto that was now on his plate, his achievements could only be defined as a true labour of love.
Find your inner perseverance when you wear this grey cotton shirt.

In a world that mocked and ridiculed aspiring artists, Seema was the rare one who believed. What Meera found so fascinating was that Seema refused to define herself – one morning she was a sculptor. The next evening she was a poet. And on certain afternoons, she was a painter. Then, there were those weeks when she’d set off on a photography expedition, only to emerge jubilant a few days later with a few rolls of film. It didn’t bother Seema what would become of her creations. All that mattered to her was that she continued to create. At first, Meera didn’t quite know what to make of Seema. Well, if she was being honest, very little about Seema made sense to her. It was only many years after they’d parted ways that Meera saw what Seema had seen so many moons ago. Life didn’t always make sense. Often, you didn’t receive what you gave. It could be frustrating. It could seem as though you were trapped in a paradox. But the art of letting go is what would save you. Seema had learned to let go. To let go of her inhibitions. Of her fears. Of her apprehensions. Of her insecurities. And once Meera learned that, she learned what it meant to truly live in the moment.
May you embrace your own versatility when you wear this gorgeous blue handloom Jamdani saree.
Jamdani is an incredibly intricate weaving technique. Each motif is inlaid into the fabric using a supplementary weft technique. Here, extra weft threads, often denser than the base, are added using individual spools while weaving. This technique makes the motifs appear as though they are floating on the fluid cotton fabric. Jamdani weaving is highly time intensive and it takes anywhere between several weeks to months to weave one saree. It is indeed a labour of love.
