In the city, the stars were always too far away and the moon only a pale, watery reflection of its exquisite self. The night sky was always shrouded in a mysterious haze that seemed close enough to touch, but so distant it never felt real. Back in her hometown, everything changed. It felt as though the world came alive when the sun went down, draped in a shimmering silver haze. The fireflies flitting in the foliage, the low hum of the cicadas, the gentle croaking of the frogs who were up way past their bedtimes, the owls’ solemn hoots and the quiet murmur of the breeze – this was a whole new world that she’d never witnessed and it was one she never wanted to leave behind again.
